Sefton Council have confirmed this morning that using Southport’s Coastal Road/Marine Drive is to become chargeable from next month.

Although locals are sure to be furious at this latest tax on motorists, the Council are insisting that the new £3 fee represents ‘excellent value for money’.

“We have been advised that the road is now bumpy enough to technically qualify it as the longest rollecoaster in Europe.” Councillor Dick Withers told us. “Therefore, three quid a go is a bargain.”

“You can also buy a wristband for just £20, which will give you unlimited rides for a week.” He explained.
